A small unmanned aircraft was designed and built for the 17th annual AIAA Design/Build/Fly (DBF) challenge, meeting performance specifications and mission targets. After the competition, further studies were conducted to enhance the design. The process involved selecting aircraft configurations, conducting sizing trades to establish a starting design point, and using multi-disciplinary optimization (MDO) to achieve a feasible solution. Preliminary design combined basic aerodynamic and flight mechanics theory with computational methods.
